Let us help you make an informed decision.

At Zobo.tv, sometimes we get calls from people AFTER they've made a few mistakes somewhere else. We're here to help, so before you do anything else, please take a minute and read.

Here are some frequently asked questions from our customers:

What are my options for mounting Plasma or LCD televisions to a wall?

Basically, there are three mounting options: Flat (flush) mount, Tilting mount and Articulating arm mount. The flat mount attaches the TV to the wall without angle adjustments. The tilting mount allows for up to 20 degrees of tilt adjustment. And the articulating arm mount lets the TV cantilever away from the wall, pivot and tilt for variable viewing options.

Can I play games on my plasma TV?

Yes. You can play video games on your plasma. While LCD is more resilient in some applications, it’s fine to use a plasma for gaming if you follow some simple rules. For instance, don’t leave static images up for prolonged periods of time. Simply change the channel and allow the display to refresh the area with a different image.

Can plasma TVs be repaired?

Yes, your plasma can be repaired, and it’s not a dead technology. Top level plasmas and LCDs have the same life spans today.

Do I need to buy a 1080p television?

1080p is the latest technology in HD resolution. It’s the standard being implemented by BluRay and HD DVD. In the future, it will be broadcast by Cable and Satellite providers but not immediately. So in the interest of preparing for the future, it’s a valid consideration. Also, 1080p is technology implemented in many manufacturers’ top examples so other high-end features are likely to be included with the resolution (i.e., better processing). The caveat is that it’s a number only. It doesn’t tell you anything about the quality of the lines, just how many there are. So a poorer quality 1080p set may have an inferior picture to another higher quality 1080i/720p set.

Does heat from a fireplace effect an over-fireplace mounted TV?

At Zobo, we mount sixty to seventy TVs over fireplaces every month. 90% of them have an extended warranty. We have never had a heat-related issue from a professionally installed fireplace-mounted TV. Plasmas in particular are heat generators and are designed with high operating temperatures in mind.

Can I play games and get cable or satellite on a Front Projection system?

Front Projection systems work just like any other TVs. You can receive cable and satellite, and play games and DVDs just as you would with a plasma, LCD or CRT.

Can a subwoofer be placed inside a piece of furniture or in a different room?

We place about 50% of our subs inside cabinets with great results. Subwoofer frequencies are large and omni-directional, so pointing them directly into the listening area is not necessary. Placing the subwoofer in a different room can be tricky. It would work in theory but it would have to be turned up so loudly to be balanced that it would surely cause problems.

Should I buy a BluRay or HD DVD player?

It seems that BluRay will ultimately win the war but the battle still rages on. BluRay is aligned with many movie studios, as well as Blockbuster and Wal-Mart. So this doesn’t look good for HD DVD. We suggest a dual format player at this stage in the game but better quality exists in single format players. The best advice may be to wait and see. But if your one of those people who love to have the latest and greatest technology, dual format is the way to go.

Why do I need an extended warranty? Isn’t the factory warranty adequate with such high-end products?

Manufacturer warranties only cover the repair, not the pain associated with it. Someone has to take your uninstall mounted TV, deliver it to a service center, and reinstall it once it’s repaired. Also, it’s always a good idea to have a professional installer calibrate the TV once it’s reinstalled to ensure that it matches the environment of the room that it’s installed in.

Why should I buy from Zobo?

Zobo provides every customer with a single point of contact. Your project is designed, managed and serviced by the same person you meet in the showroom. Any problems or questions are answered by the same system designer. You have a friend for life in the industry who can help you as your needs change. This point of contact is likely to own the same equipment that you’re purchasing and understands it better than anyone.

How do your prices compare to local retailers?

Our everyday prices should match other retailers very closely. We are aware that all of the great service in the world won’t matter if a customer thinks our pricing is higher than the competition. We would never get the opportunity to show the value of our company.

Are your installers all Zobo employees?

Yes. We never use sub-contractors.

Are you a franchise?

No. We are wholly owned by entrepreneurs who want to be the best. We are not measured by stock prices.

What is the difference between LCD and Plasma televisions?

LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. LCD TVs are like computer monitors and produce images using millions of tiny crystals that close and open allowing or blocking light. LCDs are usually cooler and take less energy to use. Plasma displays use millions of tiny gas chambers sandwiched between layers of glass to produce images. Each chamber is coated with phosphors that emit light according to the charge applied.
