Control4 has officially released their long anticipated 2.0 operating system! This new platform provides users, developers, and installers a host of new features designed to enhance the Control4 home automation experience. For the majority of us with current Control4 systems all that will be needed is a simple software update which, in most homes, will only take a few hours to complete.
The most noticeable difference with 2.0 to the end user is a new Flash based user interface. This interface allows the display and interface to be customized for a better experience. We can now change the background image, add favorites buttons, and remove icons that aren't being used. The main home screen also gives users several important pieces of information that, in the past, was found only by selecting a specific icon. We can now easily see the current time, outside temperature, indoor temperature, if the lights are on in the room, if the doors are locked, and the audio/video source that is currently being used.
Another exciting feature of 2.0 is the introduction of the Control4 app store (www.4store.com). From this site you can browse, download, and install new Control4 applications to your system. Some of the apps that are currently available include Opentable, weather forecast, news feeds, Facebook, Google calendar, and Flicker. The number of available apps is sure to grown very quickly as Control4 has created a new external developer program that provides the tools for 3rd parties to write their own apps.
Stop by either Zobo showroom to check out the new 2.0 interface today. I'm sure you'll be amazed. Current Control4 users who want to update their system to 2.0 can simply contact their System Designer or call (704) 790-3030 to set up an appointment.
